Prague Header

Prague is the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic, and also the historical capital of Bohemia. Prague has been a political, cultural and economic centre of central Europe complete with a rich history. Founded during the Romanesque and flourishing by the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras, Prague was the capital of the kingdom of Bohemia and the main residence of several Holy Roman Emperors, most notably of Charles IV (r. 1346–1378). It was an important city to the Habsburg Monarchy and its Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Prague is home to a number of famous cultural attractions, including the Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock, and the Jewish Quarter.

My Trip

Whilst in Vienna we decided to make a day trip of a visiting Prague. It seemed simple enough and we realised that it was also cheaper to book a return train ticket from the Czech railway site then the Austrian site. The trip was around 4 hours one way but a restaurant car and pleasant scenery added to the enjoyment of the journey.  oh! we also needed to convert some spending money into Czech currency for the trip but where able to do this Prague’s Main Railway Station.

Once we arrived in Prague’s Main Railway Station (Hlavní Nádraží) we ventured into the local suburban rail network where we traveled to the old part of Prague. The Main station is on line C (Red) and the Prague Old Town is on line A (Green) so we had to change trains at Muzeum. It probably would as been just as easy to do a 20 min walk from the Main Station.

Once in Prague Old Town we did the tourist thing as seen by the below photo gallery including Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock.
